Tainted Refinery Guide | Stoneblock 4

The Tainted Refinery, added by the Oritech mod, is a late-game corrupted multi block used in Stoneblock 4. Unlike standard machines that use fixed energy per tick, it scales speed and power based on your infrastructure. This page covers how to trigger the conversion ritual, what hazardous fluids it processes, and how to craft end-game tech components.

Obtaining the Tainted Refinery

SiriusMC has disabled the overload mechanic of the arcane catalyst, so to create the tainted refinery you need to use TNT to trigger the conversion ritual.

  • Place your Oritech refinery down and within 6 blocks place your arcane catalyst and just kill a mob to fill the catalyst with at least one soul.
  • Then place a block of TNT down next to the catalyst and detonate.
  • THIS WILL DESTROY YOUR ARCANE CATALYST.
  • Once your refinery has been converted you cannot break it unless you're willing to redo the process as breaking the tainted refinery breaks the multi block.

Multi block Rules and Maintenance

Because breaking any single piece breaks the entire multi block, plan your placement carefully before starting the ritual.

If you attempt to mine or pick up any part of an active Tainted Refinery, the multi block structure collapses completely. To move or replace it, you will have to craft a new Oritech Refinery, set up a new Arcane Catalyst, sacrifice another mob, and detonate another block of TNT to complete the conversion again.

Usage and Processing

Once constructed, the Tainted Refinery operates as your primary processing center for end-game fluid distillation:

Power Scaling: Unlike standard machines that draw a fixed amount of energy per tick, the Tainted Refinery dynamically scales both its processing speed and energy consumption based on your power grid. It consumes all fed energy each tick (up to a 500M RF/t maximum intake) to speed up operations with diminishing returns.

Output Selection Mechanism: Standard Oritech refineries use extra module blocks to output multiple fluids at once. The Tainted Refinery only outputs one selected fluid at a time. You must select your target output slot in its UI before running a recipe, as any non-selected fluids generated by the recipe are discarded.

Common Recipes & Outputs

The Tainted Refinery runs fractional distillation recipes for high-tier progression:

  • Oil Refining (Crude Oil): Inputs Crude Oil alongside optional catalysts (such as Clay Catalyst Beads) to yield Diesel for fuel, Naphtha for chemical intermediates, and Sulfuric Acid for industrial processing, with item byproducts used in plastic synthesis.
  • Exotic & Volatile Synthesis: Combines Enderic compounds with Lava or other volatile solutions to output Sulfuric Acid, Heavy Naphtha, and Strange Matter for late-game tech components and reactor fuels.

Environmental Efficiency Buffs

You can boost the performance of your Tainted Refinery by placing specific blocks within a 16-block radius:

  • Yield Bonus (Sculk Blocks): Placing Sculk blocks, Sculk Catalysts, Sensors, Shriekers, or Spawners nearby increases your total item and fluid output multiplier from 1x up to 3x.
  • Energy Efficiency (Arcane Blocks): Placing Enchanting Tables, Bookshelves, Amethyst Blocks, End Rods, Soul Lanterns, or Crying Obsidian multiplies energy efficiency from 1x up to 9x, making every RF input significantly more powerful.
