Occultism Rituals | ATM10

Occultism Rituals are multi-block magical summonings used in ATM10 to bind spirits, automate resources, create cross-dimensional storage networks, and unlock critical progression paths. Rituals are built using chalk pentacles, sacrificial bowls, and spirit-infused components.

As you progress through the modpack, rituals unlock higher-tier spirit tiers, ranging from basic Foliot helpers to dimension-shattering Marid entities and automated dimensional miners.

Overview

Rituals in Occultism are structured multiblock setups used for spirit summoning, item transformation, and dimensional storage linking. They require precise chalk pentacles, an activation bowl at the centre, sacrificial bowls on specific glyphs, and occasionally live mob sacrifices.

  • Used for spirit summoning, possession, and automated crafting
  • Enables massive interdimensional storage networks and ore crushing/multiplication
  • Requires structured chalk pentacles drawn on flat surfaces
  • Scales across four distinct tiers of spirit power

Core Requirements

Essential Equipment

  • Dictionary of Spirits: The in-game guide. Clicking the eye icon in any ritual entry projects a 3D hologram directly into your world to guide placement.
  • Chalk: White Chalk, Golden Chalk, Purple Chalk (Spiritual/Otherworld), and Red Chalk (Infernal).
  • Golden Sacrificial Bowl: Always placed directly in the centre of the pentacle; holds the activation item.
  • Sacrificial Bowls: Placed around the perimeter on designated chalk glyphs to hold ritual ingredients.
  • Brush: Used to clear chalk glyphs without breaking blocks.
  • Sacrificial Dagger / Knife: Required for rituals that demand living animal or monster sacrifices.

Open the Dictionary of Spirits, navigate to the Pentacle section (e.g., Aviar's Circle), and click the eye/preview icon. Sneak + Right-Click the target floor block to render an interactive ghost outline of the entire ritual layout.

Chalk Progression

Chalk Type Spirit Tier / Purpose Primary Unlocks
White Chalk Tier 1: Foliot Basic spirit transport, simple crushers, candle making
Golden Chalk Tier 2: Djinni Dimensional storage actuary, automated miners, weather control
Purple (Spiritual) Chalk Tier 3: Afrit (Preparation) Purified ink, advanced binding, Otherworld essence stabilization
Red (Infernal) Chalk Tier 4: Afrit & Marid Dimensional mineshaft upgrades, Iesnium smelting, powerful demon binding

How Rituals Work

Occultism rituals follow a strict preparation, placement, and activation workflow.

Step 1: Draw the Pentacle

Clear a flat area (usually 7x7 to 13x13 blocks). Use the chalk specified in the Dictionary of Spirits to draw glyphs on the ground, or right-click the chalk into the holographic preview projection.

Step 2: Place Bowls & Ingredients

  • Place the Golden Sacrificial Bowl in the exact centre block.
  • Place normal Sacrificial Bowls in the outer designated positions.
  • Right-click side ingredients into the outer Sacrificial Bowls (order does not matter among outer bowls).
  • Insert the core/catalyst item (often a Book of Binding, crystal, or tablet) into the central Golden Sacrificial Bowl.

Step 3: Activate the Ritual

Right-click the central Golden Sacrificial Bowl with an empty hand (or the specified catalyst item). If the layout is valid, particles will swirl as outer items are consumed one by one.

Note: If the ritual demands a sacrifice (e.g., a Cow, Zombie, or Villager), lead the mob inside the pentacle and kill it with a sacrificial knife when the ritual demands it.

If right-clicking the Golden Bowl does nothing, right-click the bowl with the Dictionary of Spirits. The book will output a chat message detailing the exact missing block, misplaced chalk, or missing ingredient.

Spirit System Tiers

  • Foliot (Tier 1): Handles entry-level tasks like manual item transport, basic ore crushing (2x), and simple weather rituals.
  • Djinni (Tier 2): Powers mid-game automation, Dimensional Storage networks, and Tier 1 Dimensional Miners.
  • Afrit (Tier 3): Unlocks advanced ore processing (3x+), Iesnium extraction, smelting, and high-efficiency automation.
  • Marid (Tier 4): End-game entities powering top-tier Dimensional Miners, advanced infusing, and ATM10 late-game crafting components.

Key Rituals & Systems

Dimensional Storage Actuator

Binds a Djinni into a dimensional storage core, providing an early-to-mid game wireless storage network that can be accessed across dimensions with a Storage Remote.

Dimensional Mineshafts

Summons mining spirits bound into lamps/miners. When supplied with Mining Dimensions / Miners, they passively harvest ores and Otherworld materials like Iesnium directly from the void without world destruction.

Crushing & Smelting Spirits

Summons spirits into stationary entities or world-bound blocks that multiply raw ore yields into dusts at higher efficiencies than conventional machinery.

Possession & Combat Rituals

Certain progression materials in ATM10 cannot be crafted passively and must be obtained by summoning and defeating possessed entities.

  • Possessed Endermite: Summons an infused Endermite that drops End Stone or End Rods early before visiting The End.
  • Possessed Skeleton / Zombie: Summons empowered undead mobs for specialized progression drops.
  • Wild Afrit Summoning: Spawns an aggressive Afrit. Defeating it drops Afrit Essence, a mandatory component for crafting Infernal Chalk and Tier 3+ rituals.
  • Possessed Warden / Boss Mobs: Advanced modpack recipes use high-tier possession rituals to farm specialized boss essences without dungeon crawling.

ATM10 Progression & The ATM Star

  • Iesnium Extraction: Iesnium Ore can only be mined with an Infused Pickaxe (crafted via Djinni/Afrit rituals) or gathered passively using an Afrit/Marid Dimensional Miner.
  • Dimensional Storage Integration: The Occultism Storage Actuator supports the Storage Stabilizer upgrades (Tier 1–4), expanding network storage to hundreds of millions of items with JEI / Applied Energistics 2 / Refined Storage cross-compat.
  • ATM Star Crafting: High-tier Marid rituals and dimensional mining lamps are hard prerequisites for end-game ATM10 star components.

Server Performance Note

Keep automated Dimensional Miners and high-frequency Crushing Spirits chunk-loaded in dedicated mining/compact dimensions or claimed chunks to prevent tick lag at player spawn bases.

Utility Items & Spirits

  • Soul Gem: Captures and transports summoned spirits, passive mobs, or hostiles with a single click.
  • Familiar Ring / Familiars: Summoned utility companions (e.g., Greedy Familiar for vacuum looting, Beholder Familiar for ranged attacks, Bat Familiar for night vision).
  • Divination Rod: Attune to raw materials (like Otherworld Logs or Iesnium Ore) by right-clicking the block, then hold right-click to highlight hidden vein traces.

Common Mistakes

  • Confusing the Bowls: Placing regular sacrificial bowls where the Golden Sacrificial Bowl belongs (or vice versa).
  • Incorrect Chalk Tier: Using White Chalk for a glyph that specifically requires Golden, Spiritual, or Infernal Chalk.
  • Obstructed Pentacle: Placing torches, carpets, or decorative blocks directly over chalk marks (they break multiblock integrity).
  • Missing Mob Sacrifices: Starting a summoning without having the required animal/mob trapped inside the ring.
  • Unbound Books: Using a blank Book of Binding instead of one bound/named for the specific spirit.

Tips

  • Build your ritual space in a flat, chunk-loaded area with at least a 13x13 clearance.
  • Use the Dictionary of Spirits holographic preview to let the game place chalk directly from your inventory.
  • Stack compatible ritual pentacles on the same floor layout if they share identical chalk positions to save base space.
  • Keep a Brush in an off-hand slot to clean up mistakes without digging up ground blocks.

Once automated, Occultism Dimensional Miners provide passive, lag-free ore generation that easily rivals or exceeds quarry tech in ATM10.
