Roost Ultimate Guide | Stoneblock 4

Roost Ultimate is a chicken-based resource generation mod includedin inFTB Stoneblock 4. ItPlayers allows players tocan hatch, breed, and train chickens that passively produce resources ranging from basic materials like iron and coal through to high-tier items such as diamonds, nether stars, and mod-specific resources. Roost Ultimate is one of the earliest and most scalable passive resource farms available in Stoneblock 4.

Getting Started

To begin with Roost Ultimate you will need a Chicken Stick, this is the equivalent of a wrench in Roost Ultimate, and is used for interacting with chickens throughout the mod. To craft one you need 1 Egg, 1 Stick, and 1 Feather. Right-clicking a chicken with the Chicken Stick turns it into an item, allowing you to carry it in your inventory and place it inside mod blocks. You can also right-click the ground with a chicken "item" to place it back into the world as a living chicken.

To get your first chicken, either place down Dirt and right-click it with Grass Seeds that you can get from brushing Dirt, or place down Delightful Dirt, which increases the spawn rate of passive animals.

Below will detail the common progression path: Roost ⮕ Soul Extractor ⮕ Breeder ⮕ Chicken Trainer ⮕ Automation

1. The Roost is the main production block. Place a chicken inside it along with seeds of the same tier or higher, and it will continuously generate that chicken's associated resource. For example, an Iron Chicken is a tier 3 chicken and will only produce Iron Ingots if a tier 3 or above seed is used. A Roost can only hold one chicken type, so you will need multiple Roosts for different resources.

2. The Soul Extractor consumes a chicken and produces a Chicken Soul of the corresponding tier. For example, a Tier 1 chicken yields a Tier 1 Soul. Souls are used as crafting ingredients, including the recipes for higher-tier seeds. This block is important for unlocking later progression, but it uses the chicken, so it's best to make sure you have spares before extracting.

3. The Breeder accepts two chicken types and seeds, then produces a chicken based on the chickens used in the breeder. The seed tier needed to breed chickens is equivalent to the lowest tier chicken used, and chickens are not consumed when breeding meaning several of the same chicken can be bred from the same parents.

There are 94 different types of chickens; the easiest way to find out how to breed the chicken you need is to search it in JEI.

4. The Chicken Trainer levels up individual chickens using seeds, improving their output rate when placed in a Roost. Chickens can be levelled up to a maximum level of 128, and the experience needed to go up a level is determined by the chicken itself, for example the Iron Chicken needs 3,000xp before it increases its level by 1, whereas the Nether Star Chicken needs 40,000xp before it increases its level by 1.

Seeds come in Tier 1 through Tier 9 and are plantable meaning they can be farmed the same as any other crop. This makes seed supply a self-sustaining system once you have just one of them. Higher-tier seeds are crafted using Chicken Souls obtained from the Soul Extractor. Any tier can be used, but higher-tier seeds grant experience faster:

Seed Tiers and Experience Gained
Seed Tier Experience Gained
1 50
2 200
3 300
4 500
5 700
6 1,000
7 1,500
8 2,500
9 5,000

5. The Roost Collector automatically gathers output from nearby Roosts without requiring pipes or hoppers. It operates wirelessly within a set radius of 30 blocks, making it ideal for collecting items from several Roosts. The Roost Feeder has the same radius, but instead wirelessly pushes seeds into nearby Roosts.

You can connect the Roost Collector and Roost Feeder to your storage network to fully automate resource collection and seed refills, as well as rename the Roosts to help keep things organised.
